Champion for the People

The working people of Southern California are under assault by the Trump Administration – and I won’t just stand by and let it happen. As the President attacks workers, immigrants, educators, housing that working people can afford, women’s reproductive rights, veterans’ services, labor unions, the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid/Medi-Cal – and democracy itself – we must fight back.

I’ve been standing up for the people – and against Trump – as a Supervisor, and now it’s time to campaign for the House and fight for the people and democracy in the Congress.

I wish Proposition 50 wasn’t necessary – but Trump and his allies in Texas and elsewhere are undermining our democracy. We must fight fire with fire, because too much is at stake.

Hilda’s Priorities

Environmental Justice

Hilda Solis has always prioritized fighting for clean air, water, and open green space. She was the first woman ever to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for her work on passing groundbreaking environmental justice laws.

Health

Hilda understands the importance of ensuring that all people, regardless of their zip code, have access to quality health care, medical facilities, and the resources needed to thrive as individuals and families. In addition to helping implement the Affordable Care Act as a member of President Obama’s Cabinet, she also works at the local level to improve care.

Housing

Hilda Solis is committed towards creating and preserving affordable housing for all residents in innovative and sustainable ways.

Homelessness

Hilda Solis helped pass Measure H in 2017 which provides $355 million annually for services to the homeless. Every day in Los Angeles County Measure H helps house 207 people, but at the same time 227 more people fall into homelessness. Solis leads by example in the effort to find innovative solutions for those experiencing homelessness.

Jobs

Hilda Solis recognizes the importance of a strong workforce as she served as the Secretary of Labor under President Obama.

Public Safety

Supervisor Solis believes that we need to shift the focus from punishment and incarceration to support and resources to get our justice system to work for the people and not against them.

Transportation

As Chair of the Metro Board of Directors, Hilda Solis is working to provide equitable and innovative transportation services to move the County into a transit-oriented community.

LA County’s Hilda Solis is running for Congress — if redistricting passes

With a long resume of holding public office, Solis immediately becomes a front-runner for a possible new seat, if voters approve mid-cycle redistricting.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis is running for Congress — should voters later this year OK a mid-cycle redistricting proposal that will change congressional district boundaries for the next three elections.

Solis is running for what would be California’s 38th Congressional District, should voters pass Proposition 50, her campaign exclusively told the Southern California News Group on Thursday.

Solis, a veteran politician in the area whose Board of Supervisors district spans from East L.A. through the San Gabriel Valley, formed a campaign committee called Hilda Solis for Congress on Wednesday, Aug. 27, according to the Federal Election Commission.

Solis previously served in the House and as a U.S. Department of Labor secretary under the Obama administration, and her campaign is touting her lengthy political resume, billing Solis as a “proven fighter” who could represent the new district….
